Silent Samattha-Vipassana Meditation Retreat / 27-31 March

March 27 @ 5:00 pm - March 31 @ 5:00 pm

Summary: This silent meditation retreat will give time for going deeper into the meditation practice for which instruction will be given daily. The teaching will focus on the concept of Dukkha (usually translated as ‘suffering’) and the Buddha’s ‘Four Noble Truths’, discussing what we mean by suffering and how meditation can help us towards new ways of relating to spiritual, mental, emotional and physical suffering.  Stephen will lead this retreat.

Description:

The first teaching of the Buddha after his Enlightenment was to proclaim the Four Noble Truths in which he taught that the Dukkha or suffering is an essential feature of life. That seems to be a bleak diagnosis of the human condition. However, he went of to elaborate that it is the psychological phenomenon of grasping or clinging that creates dukkha. And, further, that by way of our meditation practice we can work with this to liberate ourselves from the ongoing roud of suffering which he termed ‘samsara’.
During this retreat the teaching and practice will focus on this essential
aspect of the wisdom handed to us by the Buddha. Meditation instruction will be in the tradition of sammatha-vipassana, using sitting and walking meditation as well as some qi gong and in the evening our practice will focus on the heart, loving kindness and metta.

We will be invited to keep silence during the retreat as being immersed in
nature in silence supports our practice and opens us to universal compassion.
