Meditation and Work Retreat / 16th – 19th February

Retreat Description:

Right Effort, Right Mindfulness, Right Samadhi.

These are the three factors from the Buddha’s Eightfold Noble Path that are grouped into the meditation category.

On this retreat we will engage with this part of the Buddha’s teaching to help support our meditation practice and nurture our capacity to mindfully attend to the tasks of every day life.

Our Meditation and Working retreats are a way of practicing meditation together in the beautiful atmosphere of Les Gavatxes, while helping with some home tasks in order to integrate meditation and work.

Cooking will also be part of the retreat tasks.

The retreat will be structured in a way that supports the practice of meditation and the cultivation of mindfulness in all activities. To do this, we will maintain silence whenever possible, especially during meals.

The meditation periods will be adapted to the experience and level of the participants.

Instructions from the vipassana/insight tradition will be given which will focus on sitting and walking meditation.

There will also be some afternoon teaching sessions focused on a specific area of practice.

All meals will be vegetarian and accommodation is in shared rooms of two people per room.

Single rooms are available for a supplement of 10 euros per night.

1st day:

Arrive from 4.00 pm.

6.00 pm   Introductions and first meditation session.

7.30 pm   Break

8.00 pm  Dinner

9.00 pm  Metta/loving kindness practice

10.00 pm Sleeping & dreaming


2nd/3rd day: 

7.00 am Rising bell

7.30 am Meditation practice

8.30 am Qi Qong

9.15 am Breakfast

10.30 – 12 am Meditation practice

12.00 Refreshments

12.15 pm Mindful Work session

2 pm Lunch & rest

4.00 pm Mindful Work session / Walking

5.15 pm Tea

5.30 pm Meditation practice & teaching

7.30 pm Break

8.00 pm Dinner

9.00 pm Metta/loving kindness practice

10.00 pm Sleep & dreaming


Final day:

7.00 am Rising bell

7.30 am Meditation practice

8.30 am Qi Qong

10.30 am Meditation practice and reflections

2 pm Lunch & rest

4.00 pm depart Les Gavatxes.


Stephen has practiced meditation for 40 years and has been a psychotherapist in the Jungian tradition for the past 20 years. He is currently working on integrating the deep understanding of the Psyche derived from Jung with the insights that arise in the sustained practice of meditation. He sees how they each work towards a natural awakening to living and dwelling within an essential unity and simplicity of being which expands beyond the limitation of the constructed world of the ego. When we touch this, we find new levels of trust in life and a flowing that we can simply allow to emerge.
