July 1st-10th / ‘Traditional’ Vipassana Meditation retreat

About the retreat

This ten day silent retreat is an opportunity to go deeper into the meditation practice. We begin with the foundational instructions of the Buddha on mindfulness of the body, breath, feelings and the mind itself. This practice can bring us to states of deep calm and tranquility in which clear insights about our conditionings and the nature of experience can arise.  With our practice focussing on sitting and walking meditation and with the retreat being in silence, the quality of mindfulness flows into all aspects of life. We taste what it is like to live with a natural sense of wakefulness, aliveness and joy in the ordinariness of being.  As well as instruction for meditation and teaching, there will be opportunities to bring questions about the practice. 

We welcome people from any spiritual background, or none, and with little or much experience of meditation.

About the teacher: 

Stephen has practiced Vipassana for 40 years, making his first ten day retreat age 20. Since then he has followed the teachings the Thai master Dhiravamsa, with whom he completed a 4-year Samatha-Vipassana Teacher Training. This has given him an extensive understanding of the practice of Samatha (calm) and Vipassana (insight) meditation and Buddhist psychology. Stephen has also trained in Tai chi and chi kung with Tew Bunnag and has led many retreats in the UK. He also draws inspiration from the world’s wisdom traditions, specially Christian Mysticism and Taoism. Also, Stephen is a psychotherapist trained in the Jungian school, from which he has been able to integrate his Buddhist and Christian knowledge with deep psychology. In offering long 10 day retreats Stephen aims to provide the opportunity for going deep into the meditation practice, to touch the inner tranquillity and equilibrium which is the gateway to liberation.

Price: 585 €

This includes accommodation in a shared room (maximum 3), three vegetarian meals per day and all teaching.

We will have substantial lunches and light dinners

The retreat does not include the transport to the house, but if you need this service we can arrange it for you.
